Vita won’t allow web browsing while gaming

How handy would it be to pause a game, flick over to an online guide, get the help you need and flick right back into the game all on the same screen? Soz future Vita owners, it won’t let you do that.

Click to view larger image According to Media report, despite the Vita’s ample power the little handheld won’t allow users to run the web browser while a game remains active in the background.

Just like on PS3, hitting the PS button while gaming will bring up the console menu, from which you’ll be able to access a numb of features including friends lists, music and even Twitter, but unfortunately not the web browser.

The site also says that while the Vita will be accessible as a storage device when plugged into a PS3 or PC (via a special program for the latter), Mac users will have to wait a while for the required software to communicate with the handheld.

Nitpicking for nitpicking’s sake. As long as you have Uncharted: Golden Abyss in the cart slot you should be all good in the hood. Or whatever.

More South Park RPG details

southpark-gaming

I was bummed out that I didn’t get to report this story initially being a big South Park fan, but then again who isn’t. But who cares now, I have the follow-up, like a lolcat would say, I has the scoop.

So apparently, thanks to the guys at Rock Paper Shotgun, someone got their Cheesy Poof stained hands on a copy of Game Informer early. Tipped off by Obsidian Entertainment, the guys working on the upcoming RPG, on their website, said to keep an eye out for their next production in the new issue and here it was.

Apparently in the new game in true RPG fashion, you play as a silent protagonist. A new kid in town who must work to fit in.

I didn’t know this but I had thought previous games had been written by the guys at South Park. Guess not, as this is the first South Park game Stone and Parker have actively participated in and written the script for. I remember the other games, except for South Park Rally to be really funny and well-done. But Trey and Matt are comedy Gods, cannot wait to see this now.

As I mentioned before Obsidian Entertainment who have made the Dungeon Siege games and Fallout DLC are making the game and Obsidian is using the Dungeon Siege III engine.  There will be five classes (wizard, paladin, adventurer, rogue, and a fifth unannounced class).

And finally, the “elements of the combat system are like Paper Mario and the Mario & Luigi games”. So it’s an RPG map with turn-based encounters.

I love Paper Mario and if this game comes out on PSN, I am getting it first day.

Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3′s ‘Reverse World’ glitch is bizarre

Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 players have discovered a glitch that the internet has named the ‘Reverse World’, which makes it sound really epic.

Click to view larger image ‘Reverse World’ is a place in which the game’s environments are white, the fighters are silhouettes and the special move commands are all reversed.

It’s a glitch triggered by a combination of different moves that makes the camera go all odd before performing Deadpool’s level 3 super.

The below video shows you how to do it (you know, because Sunday’s are boring) although it’s said that you can only do it on the Xbox version (the PS3 just black-screens).

From Dust Sells More than a Half Million Copies

From Dust, the downloadable God-game from Ubisoft, has sold over 500,000 copies across consoles since it’s initial release on July 27th, 2011 on the Xbox Live Arcade. The God-game, in which the player controls land formations in order to protect tribes of worshippers, would later be released on the PlayStation Network in the fall. Ubisoft has attributed the game’s success to the digital format, as well as being a part of the “Summer of Arcade Xbox Live promotion.

Ubisoft believes that it is smart to release this type of game in a digital format, because the price is reduced greatly, which makes consumers more willing to try a new IP. A $ 60 price tag can scare off a consumer from a new franchise, but a $ 15 price tag is much more reasonable.

From Dust is a fantastic take on the strategy genre. To see why the game is so successful, content-wise, be sure to check out our review here.

SWTOR video: Imperial Agent vs. Jedi Consular

You’ve got some decisions to make when you get your hands on Star Wars: The Old Republic, but none more crucial than which class of character you’ll choose to be for the ENTIRE game.

Click to view larger image It’s a big choice. Bigger than choosing a career, or asking a woman her hand in marriage. This is EPIC stuff.

But BioWare is out to help (sort of). It tackles the question with a look at two more classes: the Imperial Agent vs. Jedi Consular.

BioWare recently released a video giving you an in-depth look at the character progression for the Jedi Consular.

End of the Year Report Cards, Who Won 2011?

It’s that time of year again! As 2011 comes to a close, we look back at the big three and assess how each major player in the video game industry faired. From exclusive games to downloadable content, there’s a lot to take into account. So how are we going to go about tackling this?

We’re going to systematically hit upon each of the three companies (Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft) and provide each with a letter grade. But we also want to hear from you, so be sure to cast your vote for which major player in the gaming industry won 2011 in the comments below.

Here we go…

Sony

Without a doubt, Sony had hands down the most exclusives this year. From Killzone 3 and inFamous 2 to Uncharted 3 and Resistance 3, there has been no shortage of quality first party content. In addition, Sony has strived to expand the PlayStation Network by providing users with more digital content as well as incentives for joining PlayStation Plus, with a growing list of free games that is hard to ignore. Online play remains free and continues to be a major selling point of the console. In addition, Blu-ray has proven that many of today’s games are simply too large for a single DVD.

But before we go singing Sony’s praises any further, let’s take a look at the exclusives themselves. All four of the titles I mentioned above are sequels, and others that I didn’t list (including LittleBigPlanet 2) are also extensions of already pre-existing franchises. Where are the NEW exclusive IPs Sony? It’s also important to note that while both Killzone 3 and Uncharted 3 are great games, they failed to live up to the hype generated by their predecessors. If you ask most gamers, I’m pretty sure they’d tell you that both Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 were better games than their successors. On the other hand however, I’d like to applaud Insomniac for their work on Resistance 3, proving that a third entry in a long running franchise can actually provide a fresh and unique experience. I’m sure many of you may disagree with me, but I believe that Resistance 3 was by far the best Sony exclusive of 2011 and one that every PlayStation owner should check out.

Let’s not forget about Sony’s other foray into the gaming world, namely the PlayStation Portable. It’s hard to deny the fact that the PSP was a colossal failure outside of Japan, and with the Vita on the horizon, it’s headed toward a quick and sudden death. If Sony wants to turn things around with the Vita, they’ll need a strong launch with plenty of games. The key here is positioning the device as a game machine first, and a multimedia device second; something they failed to do with the PSP. Has Sony learned their lesson? Judging by the robust lineup of launch titles including Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Sound Shapes and many more, it looks like they’re headed in the right direction. However, they’ve got one heck of an uphill battle to climb if they think that they’re going to be able to compete with smart phones and the 3DS.

Grade: B- With a number of exclusive games this year, Sony has proven that they know what the hardcore gaming market wants. However, they’re going to need to provide fresh and new content if they want to remain competitive in this industry, as relying on older well-established franchises simply won’t due. They’ve also got a lot of work ahead of them if they hope to make the Vita a success.
